...... a tangle of words from local writers

Voices in the Hedgerow
A few berries, spiders’ webs linger; a creature in the hedgerow stirs, scuttles through fallen leaves and settles to a long winter of frost-filled mornings, owls hooting on starlit nights. The year turns, looks to primroses, stitchwort, thrushes‘ nests; listens for the first linnet singing in the blackthorn. Summer ladybirds and butterflies emerge; the hedgerow, spilling with flowers, fills with birdsong: each voice loud and clear; distinct, unique.

The Hedgerow was launched in January 2002 as a quarterly publication distributed in libraries and bookshops throughout the Epping Forest area featuring writers from east London to Epping. It has been very well-received and goes much further afield — one of our readers lives in Norway! The Hedgerow is free but donations are welcomed to off-set printing and distribution costs.

If you would like to write for The Hedgerow we would be pleased to hear from you. Submissions are also welcome from writers living outside the area. Although we are unable to publish everything we receive, poetry, prose and short stories may be retained for inclusion at a later date.

Submission Guidelines: Great Inspirations: a favourite painting, piece of music, novel, poem, author, poet
General submissions: Short stories should be limited to 1,000 words, poems no longer than 30 lines.
Ownership of copyright remains with the author. Please do not send original manuscripts, only copies. Typed manuscripts, with name, address and telephone number should be sent to the Editor.
