Penny Freeston, Romantic Writer

We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking up at the stars, wrote Oscar Wilde. I have spent a lifetime looking for romantic inspiration - places, people, music, paintings - a straw hat seen in Florence, an abandoned dove-cote, the dappled light on a terrace in Provence. They surface in my stories, tumbling on to the page at random.

What do I mean by romantic?

Old houses, worn, antique furniture
Embroidery and paintings long forgotten
The scent of lemons, lavender, rambling roses
Autumn leaves, snow falling
The sea, empty beaches strewn with shells
Music drifting through open windows
Bluebell woods, birdsong
An old shoe, a faded cushion
Soft velvet and crumpled linen
An old car lovingly restored
A French song, Italian opera
A poem scribbled down…

  Welcome to my world.
